small-artistic-vision
SMALL: "Artistic Vision"

My friend sent me a link to the most absurd art story I've read since the banana incident (more on that in a minute). An Italian artist by the name of Salvatore Garau auctioned off an "invisible sculpture" in Milan. The winning bid? Fifteen hundred euros, which comes to roughly EIGHTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS in U.S. currency. This man had the audacity to walk into an art auction, INSTALL AN INVISIBLE SCULPTURE ON THE PODIUM, and expect people to bid on it. If you want to read more about it, google his name and take your pick of articles about it.

At first, I was offended. How dare this man make a mockery of the careers of hardworking artists by claiming a great big ball of NOTHING was art and available for purchase in what was obviously a money-laundering operation? The longer I thought about it, though, the more impressed I was. He had to get up, get dressed, and have the guts to waltz into an auction house, and act like a mime for a few minutes while the whole art world was watching, and pray that it paid off. And pay off, it did! Granted, due to auction policies and whatnot, he is only getting a fraction of that money, but it's pure profit He didn't have to spend any time or effort, and he certainly didn't have to invest in any materials. And he can't get punished for any money laundering charges, because it was the auction house that sold his work. I have to reiterate, it's an impressive way to make a buck.

I'd like to imagine that Shark, being the agent of chaos that he is, would also be impressed by this, and perhaps even want to emulate it. After all, that's a LOT of snack money. Inspired by the questionable activities, Shark launched into his art career, and this series, SHARK VS. ART, is the result!

This piece is watercolor and pen and ink painted on watercolor paper. It is matted and framed under glass to approximately 5"x7". It can stand alone on a shelf, and there is also hardware for hanging it on the wall.
